Orioles Have Reached Out To Chris Tillman, Wade Miley

Oct 31, 2017 7:52 AM

The Baltimore Orioles have reached out to impending free agents Chris Tillman and Wade Miley to explore retaining them on incentive-laden one-year contracts.

Such an agreement with Miley seems unlikely. The Orioles have a $12 million club option on his contract, but they are expected to pay him a $500,000 buyout instead.

Rockies Search For Closer Will Include Greg Holland

Oct 30, 2017 7:37 AM

Greg Holland was a vital part of the Colorado Rockies' success this season, but there are no guarantees he'll be back.

Holland hasn't officially rejected his $15 million player option, but is expected to do so so he can become a free agent.

The Rockies will make a play to re-sign Holland, but they would have serious competition.

Royals Making Backup Plans Should Free Agents Leave

Oct 25, 2017 8:23 AM

The Kansas City Royals are making contingency plans should free agents such as Eric Hosmer leave the club.

If Hosmer leaves, the Royals have discussed replacing him in the lineup with former first-round pick Hunter Dozier.

Dozier, 26, was the eighth overall pick in 2013. He's played mostly third base, but some outfield and first base.

They plan to have Cheslor Cuthbert play third assuming Mike Moustakas signs elsewhere.

Kansas City may also have to replace Lorenzo Cain in the outfield.

Curtis Granderson Hopes To Play In 2018

Oct 25, 2017 8:08 AM

The Los Angeles Dodgers left Curtis Granderson off their World Series roster after he hit just .150 with 41 strikeouts in 127 at-bats since coming over from the New York Mets.

Granderson turns 37 in March and will be a free agent.

"Mentally and physically I feel as if I want to [keep playing]," he said. "But it is up to what 30 ballclubs say. Everything is in play."

If his playing career is over, Granderson wants to remain involved in baseball but doesn't want to manage, coach or work in a front office.

"I want to help MLB in some capacity," Granderson said. "I want to be open to see what is out there."

CC Sabathia Wants To Re-Sign With Yankees

Oct 23, 2017 8:00 AM

CC Sabathia hopes to re-sign with the New York Yankees this winter.

Sabathia started Game 7 of the ALCS and allowed one run over 3 1/3 innings in a start that wasn't bad, but wasn't what the Yankees were hoping for either.

"This is my home. I want to see this thing through," the left-hander said. "I want to come back here and finish things off. This is where I want to be."

Sabathia, 37, has a degenerative knee condition and can no longer pitch deep into games with regularity. However, he's been a constant for New York over nine years and is valuable in the clubhouse.

"He's as good as I've ever been around when it comes to a clubhouse guy, a guy that will take the ball when you're on a losing streak or that you can count on," Joe Girardi said following Game 7. "Our players can learn a lot from CC. The kind of fighter that he is. The things that he has to overcome to be successful."

Rockies Have Almost $54M Coming Off Books

Oct 11, 2017 8:04 AM

The Colorado Rockies face a number of roster questions following their Wild Card loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The club's season-ending payroll was $105 million, which ranked 16th in baseball. Colorado's total payroll was $146.7 million, which was 17th. That figure includes "dead money" owed to Jose Reyes ($22 million), Jason Motte ($5 million), Chad Qualls ($3.2 million) and Jordan Lyles ($3.175 million), who did not finish the season on the team.

Carlos Gonzalez's $20.4 million salary will also come off the books.

All of the money freed up will allow the Rockies to target free agents and/or sign Charlie Blackmon to a long-term deal.
